The Fifth Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Summit was held in Amman, Jordan on the 13 - 14th May 2008. The summit was attended by delegates from the Capital Market Development Authority, Ms. Fathimath Shafeega, Chief Executive Officer and Ms. Shabab Rasheed, Manager, Legal Affairs Section.
The Capital Market Development Authority has taken numerous initiatives to develop a vibrant and thriving Islamic Capital Market in the Maldives. The main aim of attending this Summit was to further the activities of the Capital Market Development Authority in relation to the development of an Islamic Capital Market in the Maldives, to get more exposure to Islamic Financial Services and to build relationships with other jurisdictions that have developed financial markets.
In the summit distinguished speakers shared their experiences on key topical issues and the Summit was attended by delegates of IFSB members and distinguished delegates from the host country, Jordan.
In addition to attending the Summit, during the delegates stay in Jordan, discussions were held with IFSB Secretary General, Professor Rifaat Ahmed Abdel Karim regarding technical assistance for developmental work in relation to Islamic capital markets and also the way forward as a new member of IFSB. The delegates also had discussions with Dr. Bassam Saket, Executive Chairman of the Jordan Securities Commission regarding building bi-lateral relations between the two institutions.
